My projects usually develop in series. This one is musical in theme entitled, “A Year To Look Past Yourself”. Whether it be drawings, collages, paintings or mosaics, I create several which play off each other. To begin, I spread out all the materials that I think will tell my story. For this series of mirrors, I chose diverse mosaic pieces that I have a particular affinity for, iridescent, matte glass, honed marble, glossy glass. I let them combine to make gentle and soft frames (yes, stone can feel soft to the eyes), stark and serious as well as bubbly whimsy. Layout and cutting glass takes the longest. I use nippers or a good old fashioned hammer and hardie. Once those difficult decisions are made, I begin to glue on with special attention to spacing. “Divide the gap” was taught to me in my Ravenna, Italy class. It makes all the difference. Hope these spark some love!
